The older I get, the more I "get" art. I have yet to invest in a piece that's well worth hundreds of dollars, but I think I'm getting there. In the meantime, I'll find ways to appreciate it. This past weekend I dragged Matt to soak up some culture by walking through the many booths at the Gold Coast Art Fair. Trust me, getting him to walk in the 90 degree heat (plus 80% humidity) is a big deal and the fact that we lasted outdoors for more than an hour was a HUGE deal.
There were so many pieces, each unique and beyond what I can create. It was hard to not find an appreciation for each.
And of course leave it to me to gravitate towards anything fashion or clothing related. In this case, it was a booth filled with a variation of hats. Some made of leather and others that made me look like Crocodile Dundee. As I tried on this hat, someone said I looked like Slash from Guns N Roses. Not exactly the look I was going for, but I guess it could have been worse.
Aside from some amazing art pieces, I had fun discovering these Mistura watches (nay timepieces). The faces are made from exotic woods all over the country and the leather straps come in an assortment of colors. If I was someone that kept a watch collection I would have quickly snatched one up, but sadly the heat was getting to me and quickly had to move on.
Overall, the H.O.H (Head of Household aka Matt) and I had a great time discovering art. With Chicago weather making its presence for a limited time only, we gots to do what we gots to do to enjoy it.
|Are there are any great art festivals or fairs in your 'hood that help you appreciate, and understand it more?|

As an art lover & art blogger, it thrills me to read about folks discovering & nurturing an appreciation for art! I'm living in the Pacific Northwest, where art festivals, galleries & museums abound-- heaven!
Would love to know the names of the artists in the photos featured-- especially the first one, the figurative work, those are really wonderful.
My blog would be a great place to help foster your growing art love & appreciation. Think you would like a lot of the artists I feature. Planning an upcoming art+fashion week soon!

I used to love the Gold Coast Art Fair. My family would go every year. I still have a silver ring my mom bought for me there when I was 14...
Those watches are great! Nice find. I may have to look them up.
Found you via Refinery29, I'm a Chicago style blogger as well! Your site is awesome, can't wait to get to know it/you! xx

You should check out 2nd Fridays in Pilsen for the art gallery crawl (and vintage sales!), free Tuesdays at the MCA and the Friday night openings at the River North galleries. :) What medium do you like the best/style/time period?
Also, how much was that ice cream sign?? It's amazing!
