I made a deal with myself that when I re-branded and re-designed my blog that I would make it a goal to work on my photography skills. So finally (after half a year of having my new camera) I buckled up and signed up for lessons. My problem is that I always want to know everything the quickest way possible and I realize with photography it's the classic rule of thumb that I need to follow, "Practice makes perfect." Sadly I'm too impatient to practice and want to be perfect now, but I realize in this case, I should probably listen. So here are some of the shots that I took over the weekend. As you can see when the shots progress, the day started off beautiful and our class ended right before the storm was going to hit.

I took a photography class last year through the Chicago Photography Academy and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned so much in just a day about my DSLR! I want to take more classes on lighting, portrait photography, etc ... but it was a great place to start.
these are awesome, T! that class sounds great.
what gorgeous shots, tabitha! one day I'm gonna upgrade my camera, and you've inspired me to also get myself to take a class :)
after I learn to sew
and learn french
can't we just take lessons in the things we love forever??
PS I haven't commented in awhile, but I'm LOVING the new blog image/design/title/etc. as my mom would say, way to go!
Nice shots! I took photojournalism in high school and was the editor of the newspaper for a bit, so I learned a lot then. Unfortunately, I haven't had a nice camera in a long time, so I've probably forgotten about half of what I learned. I like to look back at some of my old photos, though. I won an award for a photo story I did of the homeless living in "underground Atlanta." I was pretty proud of those shots. I'm hoping to get a nicer camera for Christmas this year, so maybe then I can brush up on my skills.
I'm a self-taught pretty bad photographer, but I am blaming my point and shoot camera (haha). I'd love to invest in something better but I don't have the funds or skillz for a DSLR - any ideas if there's a good in-between camera? What do you use?
Wow... pretty.
That's awesome that you're taking classes! Be sure to let us know what good tips and tricks you learn :) I'm basically teaching myself, while also reading tutorials and books. The thing I'd like to learn more is composition and framing, which I'm discovering is the trickier bit.
Looks like the lessons are paying off! You've got a great sense of composition and camera angle. Keep it up!
I was a self taught photographer until going to graduate school to get my MFA! It's true, lots of practice helps as well as knowing your equipment (ie shoot in manual rather than auto). Also, natural light is your friend and don't shoot outside during the brightest times of the day (ie between 11-4PM) or you can shoot in the shade.
You definitely have an eye for composition, can't wait to see what else you shoot in the future.
I'm the exact same way! I want to know everything right then and there... These are some great shots by the way!
Great shots! I am a camera hobbyist, and I try to practice as much as I can. I took a class through Oakton College but I hated the instructor and never finished. I'd love to find a better one; I need work on doing more manual set ups.
