I love my neighborhood. A mile south and I'm in Chinatown. A mile west and I'm in Pilsen (which has some of the best vintage stores and Mexican restaurants in the city). A mile east and I'm right on Lake Michigan. It's no wonder why I'm such a freak about not wanting to ever live in the suburbs. Everything is literally within arms reach and I've only discovered half of what I have around me.

Last week, I noticed that there was a lot of buzz about the new work done to the Ping Tom Memorial Park. It's walking distance from where we live and I had no idea that it even existed. After seeing some pictures on Sloopin, it peaked my curiosity and I decided to venture out in search of this park.
Nestled right on the edge of Chinatown is this amazing park with breath taking scenery. The entry way is hidden from the main street and is tucked right in the middle of a residential area. From the entrance, it's a little un-assuming, but once you walk past the railroad tracks you can't help but be in awe of this huge pagoda that welcomes you. Walking through the park you get a great feel of Chinatown's influence, but it never out shadows the one thing this park offers that many don't in the city - an un-obstructed view of the skyline. I walked around the park soaking in the great weather and tried to really appreciate the moment. This park is quickly becoming one of my favorite things about my neighborhood and I can't wait to go back again when I need to decompress.

That does sound like a fabulous place to live!
I for one know I need to live within walking distance of the water, I would die if I had to live inland.
my husband and have been meaning to take a bike ride to that park (we're in Pilsen). maybe we'll swing by china town and get some take out and make it a picnic :)
lovely pictures!
I haven't been exploring much since it's been so hot this summer. Now with the cooler weather I have no excuse :)
Beautiful pictures! I'm hoping to visit Chicago soon. I want to move after graduation next year, and Chicago is on my list of possible places.
This is so beautiful, and like you i hadn't heard about it until just now (so thank you for introducing me) :) I don't live far either so i'll need to make my way there!
that's basically like where we live in Seattle, everything is basically a 5-10 minute drive away or within walking distance. I'm so not a suburbs kind of girl!
pretty park! I'll have to remember this next time I'm in Chicago visiting my sister.
I completely agree with living so close to so much awesomeness! I've been to Chinatown many times but have never heard of this park - we'll have to add it to the to do list. I think we've done nearly everything there is to do in our 'hood but I adore exploring others!
It sounds like you live in a great part of the city.
Gorgeous! We rode past the park on an architecture tour last month, and I could not get over how pretty it was.
We drove down canal on Sunday and I saw that bridge with the aging house/station on it and thought it looked so beautiful and that I wanted to come back and photograph it.
I love exploring the city.
What a great place to live! I live in the city and love finding new restaurants and bars.
